Santorini Wedding Venues

Santorini is a caldera wedding or a beach wedding, and the two barely resemble each other: cliff terraces in Imerovigli and Oia built for 20 to 80 guests and a sunset ceremony, or open venues in the southeast with room for 150 and no cliff-edge logistics.

Caldera terraces versus the southeast

Caldera venues in Oia, Imerovigli and Firostefani sell the view and the light. Capacities are genuinely small — often 20 to 80 guests — and access is via stepped pathways, so buggies or porters are part of the plan. Ceremony time is set by sunset, not by preference.

Villas and estates in the southeast around Vlychada, Perissa and Pyrgos offer flat ground, parking, larger seated dinners and later music curfews. You trade the caldera panorama for a considerably calmer day and lower cost per guest.

Hotel wedding packages on the island cover catering, staff and decor in-house, which is efficient in high season when independent suppliers are stretched thin.

Legal ceremonies, timing and light

Greece allows foreign couples to marry legally on Santorini. You file with the local municipality via a licensed wedding planner, with apostilled documents and translations — plan around three months for paperwork.

Most couples still choose a symbolic caldera ceremony timed to the sunset, and hold the legal ceremony either at the municipality earlier that week or at home. Confirm the sunset minute for your date with your photographer before fixing the invitations.

Season, guest logistics and suppliers

May, June, late September and October give warm evenings with less wind and fewer cruise-ship crowds than July and August. The island's summer meltemi wind is a real factor for hair, veils and outdoor florals.

Santorini is small but slow: transfers from the airport or port to Oia take 30 to 45 minutes in season. Book accommodation in the same village as the venue where possible.

Preguntas frecuentes

How much does a Santorini wedding venue cost?
Caldera terrace venues charge a venue fee plus a per-guest minimum, and the fee reflects the view rather than the size. Southeast villas and estates are usually noticeably cheaper per guest. Ask which model applies before comparing.
Can we marry legally on Santorini?
Yes. Greece permits legal civil marriages for foreign couples on the island, filed with the local municipality through a licensed planner, with apostilled documents and certified translations.
How many guests fit in caldera venues?
Most caldera terraces are built for 20–80 guests. For 100 or more, venues in the southeast of the island are the practical choice.
When is the best time to marry on Santorini?
May, June, late September and October offer warm weather with less wind and fewer crowds. July and August are hot, windy and busiest.
