Locarno gives couples Switzerland's mildest climate and an Italianate lakefront, palm trees and piazzas without leaving Swiss soil.
The season runs April to October, longer than anywhere else in alpine Switzerland, with June and September the most requested for their calm water and warm evenings. Most weddings gather 30 to 100 guests in a lakefront hotel garden in Ascona's old town or on a private villa terrace above Minusio, with civil ceremonies handled at Locarno's Ufficio dello Stato Civile before any religious or symbolic rite.
Milan Malpensa is under an hour by car, making Locarno the easiest Swiss lake to reach for international guests, while Zurich adds a scenic three-hour rail transfer through the Gotthard. Boats from Ascona's harbour to Brissago and the Isole di Brissago botanical island are a favourite way to move guests between ceremony and reception.
