Zermatt Wedding Venues
Zermatt is a car-free village under the Matterhorn, which makes it one of the few mountain destinations where the backdrop is guaranteed and the logistics are handled by the resort: chapels at altitude, hotel ballrooms in the village, and mountain restaurants reached by cable car.

Village hotels along the Bahnhofstrasse handle ceremony, dinner, rooms and staff in one contract, seat roughly 40 to 150 guests, and are the weather-proof option in every season.
Mountain restaurants and terraces at Riffelberg, Sunnegga and Gornergrat put the Matterhorn directly behind the ceremony. Access is by cogwheel railway or cable car, so guest numbers are limited by transport times and the last descent — usually 30 to 80 guests.
The small chapel at Riffelberg is the classic ceremony location at altitude and books out far ahead for summer Saturdays.
Legal formalities and ceremony formats
Non-resident couples can marry legally in Switzerland at a civil registry office; the Valais registries serve Zermatt. File the marriage-preparation documents with apostilles and translations, allow six to eight weeks, and hold the ceremony within three months of approval.
Many couples pair a civil registration in the valley with a symbolic or church ceremony on the mountain the same day. Confirm cable-car timings with your planner — they define your whole schedule.
Seasons, access and suppliers
Zermatt works twice a year: July to September for green alpine weddings, and December to March for snow. Late April, May, June and November are shoulder periods with limited lift and restaurant service.
The village is car-free — guests park in Täsch and take the shuttle train, and luggage moves by electric taxi. Build this into arrival times and tell guests in advance.
